When he began to speak in French and she answered in Spanish that again she did not understand him, they both laughed. When a stranger greeted her in English, she answered in French that she did not understand him and continued walking even faster. They lived in a very quiet neighborhood, but it seemed to her that there was somebody following her with great determination. But it was getting dark and it was better to hurry. She was hurrying to mail some letters and it was not far to go.
